Free Family Fun Day to ‘give something back’

A free Family Fun Day is to take place this Saturday (18th April) in east Belfast.

The Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre initiative will include a number of activities – such as biscuit-decorating, drumming, a bouncy castle, digital arts and a disco for kids – at Banana Block, at Portview Trade Centre on the Newtownards Road.

Food will also be provided at the event at the former linen spinning mill.

As well as being a cost-free day out for people in the area, it is also hoped the day will introduce the local community to what’s happening at the Banana Block facility.

One of the organisers, Tanya McCuaig, said: “We’re hosting a free community fun day this Saturday from 12–4pm in the Banana Block at Portview. It’s open to local families and people of all ages, offering a chance to come together, enjoy fun activities, and have a day out with no cost involved.

“We know everything is so expensive at the moment and many people are feeling the pressure, so this day is about giving something back. We’re reaching out to anyone who would like a free day out, a chance to meet others, and enjoy some time together in the community.”

Aisling Cartmill, co-ordinator at the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre, added: “We want to make the former spinning mill a welcoming and inclusive space for the local community in East Belfast.”
